Dried Prunes

Californian, French, Italian and South African prunes, Premium through Commercial grade.

Californian prunes are the largest-volume line we carry and the variety most buyers mean by default when they say "prunes" without qualification. French and Italian prunes run smaller with a more concentrated flavor and are typically bought by buyers already familiar with the category rather than first-time importers. South African stock gives us a second-hemisphere harvest window, useful if you need supply outside the main Northern Hemisphere season.

Premium grade is sorted for size and moisture consistency for direct retail sale; Standard and Commercial grades suit bakery, puree and ingredient manufacturing.

Grades available
Premium
This is the highest quality grade of dried prunes, with a uniform size, color, and texture. Premium dried prunes are usually more expensive than other grades and are often used in high-end food products or for snacking.
Standard
This grade of dried prunes is still of good quality but may have minor imperfections in size or texture. Standard dried prunes are often used in baking or cooking.
Commercial
This grade of dried prunes is typically sold in bulk and may have more noticeable imperfections in size or texture. Commercial dried prunes are often used as an ingredient in processed foods, such as cereals or energy bars.
Varieties available
California
This variety of dried prune is the most common in the United States and is produced from the dried fruit of the French d'Agen plum. California dried prunes are sweet and have a chewy texture.
French
This variety of dried prune is made from the d'Agen plum and is often considered to be the highest quality dried prune. French dried prunes are dark, juicy, and have a rich, sweet flavor.
Italian
This variety of dried prune is made from the Stanley plum and is known for its large size and sweet flavor. Italian dried prunes are often used in baking and cooking.
South African
This variety of dried prune is made from the Laetitia plum and is known for its firm texture and sweet flavor. South African dried prunes are often used in snacking and baking.
